New Mexico Ranks 49th for Child Welfare

Child Welfare Report

Yes, once again we rank at the bottom on issues of child welfare. Yet state representatives are too busy with more important issues like tax cuts for the rich and removing historical symbols to be bothered with such unimportant issues like helping our children. The public has to demand action on this issue from the governor and the state representatives.

With every year our children are at the bottom of this list we increase the number of unemployed voters. We force more people on to programs that the governor is already cutting. We help put people on the street so they can be set afire by people in vans. The police shot them like wild animals. The same police force that views the public as resources for capturing criminals and they call that community policing. 

We must demand early childhood education. We must demand that children who are abused get an attorney. We must demand that jobs and educational resources are on top of the priority list for our elected officials. We must demand that SNAP for children as young as 7 years of age not be taken away.

Here is the email address for comments about SNAP. The public hearing was already held so we should also demand that government also have an action plan for communicating with the public more affectly or their budget should be cut.

Wrong Words from a Campaign at Wrong Time

I support Gary King for governor because I hope that he can do more then Governor Susana Martinez to encourage job growth in this state. We are at rock bottom when it comes to jobs in this state. I also like the way King supports teachers and funding education to create a well-trained work force. The educational policies that Governor Martinez has created have only harmed our educational system and reduced the skills levels of our children. I have no problem with his views on protecting the environment from large corporations that would destroy future usage of our lands for our children. Governor Martinez has sold us out to large corporations for endless amounts of money to finance her current campaign.

I do however think it is wrong to say anything about Governor Martinez’s nationality. I personally don’t think she has a kind and giving heart when it comes to New Mexicans. I just don’t understand why our candidates have to always put their foot in their mouths when it comes to this issue.

I know a large number of Hispanics are telling King’s campaign staffers that they will vote for Governor Martinez because she is Hispanic even though she has only harmed our state in the long run. This has to be difficult for someone like Gary who was born and raised in New Mexico. 

Governor Martinez was born in Texas and does not understand the culture of New Mexico. I do know that some Hispanics especially those in the north do view Governor Martinez as a bigot when it comes to protecting Hispanics in this state from rich white people from Texas. She picked on Speaker Lujan for not speaking English well and that offended a lot of Hispanics in the Northern part of this state. It would appear that Governor Martinez has no problem with offending Hispanics in the northern part of this state.

When it comes to race I know that most people view it as correct for members of the same race to attack each other for their weaknesses to fit into popular white culture, while someone from another race will be attacked for doing the same thing to the individual who attacked individuals from their own race. Governor Martinez has no solid ground to stand on when it comes to issues, so she will always play the race or gender card if she is given even a slight chance. 

Does Saying It Often Enough Make It True?

Well, Governor Martinez is spending big money on commercials telling the world how much teachers in New Mexico love her. Funny most of my coworkers and friends are teachers and they all tell me how much they hate her and her Secretary-Designate  for the Public Education Department. Governor Martinez cannot even get that women confirmed by the state senate because she lacks the required qualifications.

Governor Martinez started her campaign four years ago by saying to her debate staff how over paid teachers were in the first place. How she would cut their pay because they did not work hard. In the last four years she has driven hundreds of teachers out of the field either by retirement or they just resign because of poor working conditions. She has sold our online classes to large out of state companies so that taxpayers will have to pay not only for our children’s education but corporate profits as well. She has found ways to cut funding to higher education all in the name of reform.  

Teachers don’t like it when we graduate students who cannot find a job and end up committing street crimes just to get by in life. We work hard to give our students skills that will get those jobs but without a real opportunity children have to leave the state to find work. Parents don’t want to see their children leaving the state and maybe never coming home. Even more so they don’t want to see their children going to jail for life because of a lack of real work.

Many children are dropping out of school before eight-grade because they cannot pass Martinez’s test. Parents have no where to turn for help because of Martinez’s budget cuts and her selling out mental health services to Arizona companies that don’t understand our children’s problems. Martinez is too busy raising funds for her run for Vice-President to care about our children. She only gives out books to children because it makes for a good photo op. She does not think it through that the money would be better spent on E-readers so that the children could get free books from the library and publishing companies.

Leave it to Governor Martinez to waste taxpayer’s dollars on one time photo op stunts that don’t help our children in the long run. Governor Martinez claims to listen to teachers but fails to hear a word they say about educating our children. 

So the answer is “NO” teachers do not support or even like Governor Martinez. Maybe if we say it often enough she will get the message to stop lying!

Has Governor Martinez been a do nothing governor?

No! She has been far from a do nothing governor. Our governor has done many things to harm our state. 

Our governor started out by opposing job creation by cutting the tax credit to the film industry. She opposed our spaceport. She opposed our commuter train. A well-supported commuter train could promote small businesses growth around the local stops. Rather than spending time promoting our state as a place to do business and visit, she went out on the campaign trail to increase her own job profile. Less time supporting the GOP and more time supporting local employers would keep New Mexican workers employed. How about a real all of the above approach to energy production, where is the governor’s support for green energy jobs?  Where is the governor’s support of our National Labs?

The governor’s appointee for Secretary of Education has been busy selling our educational system to private for profit corporations, which drains taxpayer’s dollars for our school systems.  Why is the appointee not promoting parent interaction through programs directed at education? She could encourage parents to work with the schools to get children to eat healthy and exercise.

The governor could have promoted bicycle trails to and from local schools. She could have encouraged employers to give employees paid time to exercise during working hours. She could have encouraged local farmers to provide healthy foods to school systems through tax breaks. No, she was far too busy selling off our school systems to Corporate America.

Governor Martinez is opposed to illegal aliens getting driver licenses. As a former district attorney, she should have found ways to speed up getting people the correct paperwork so that they could legally work in our country. Working with Mexico on this, guns, the drug issues could have promoted more jobs and international trade all at the same time. We do not have to support illegal immigration to fix the problem. We could have fixed the problem by designing a different license that would have solved the problem long ago and meet federal standards at the same time.

Governor Martinez failed the residents of the City of Albuquerque by cutting backroom deals for our fairgrounds. She supported the hiring of a disgraced law enforcement individual to run a building project where he has no skills.

Governor Martinez promoted and signed into law tax cuts for corporation, while forcing local cities and towns to increase taxes on working New Mexicans to pay for that tax cut.  

Governor Martinez is no friend to the women in this state. She should be replaced with a candidate who puts working New Mexican families first and foremost above any party.  Governor Martinez has done a lot in the last few years and none of it has been beneficial to working middle class New Mexicans.

Convince Me Maybe

Martin Heinrich seriously convince me that I need to vote for you! I am so ready to not vote for you. So far you have turned away a reporter at one of your pay-for-view events in Santa Fe because you did not agree with his politics. Or maybe it was because you are too good to be seen with a reporter who does not work for one of the major national conservative networks. Even the President of the United States does not act in such a disrespectful manner. How should I know why the reporter was turned away since your communications director has not returned my call?

I have not seen you in months. Your campaign staff is insulting to bloggers. I know this because I have called not once but twice. You lack any interest in my personal issues or those of the women who read my blog. At this rate I could write a great column on why not to vote for you. If this is how you treat your constituencies, than maybe I don’t want you in Washington D.C. We already have a U.S. Senator who acts that way.

I know what you had done in the past. Not all of it has been great. What I want to know is will you stand with hard working mothers in the future. Your ego has become so inflated that I have my doubts. I have to wonder if all the money you have received in the past year will have a direct effect on your future votes if you are elected to the U.S. Senate. As my later mother use to say, “The devil is in the details.”

Good looks only go so far when it comes to the welfare of our children. Hard working mothers cannot afford the high price tickets to see this would be senator. Maybe my vote does not matter to you. Maybe their votes don’t matter to you.

Give me one good reason other than the fact that no one likes Heather Wilson as to why I should vote for you. And please don’t expect working mothers to show up for pricy events in the middle of a working day.

Fired Up and Ready to Vote!

The next few weeks will be busy ones for candidates. Everyone is coming out with weekend events to convince the remaining undecided voters to lean their way when the early voting starts. I can tell you that, if you want them to stop contacting you then vote as early as you possibly can. Once, you cast that vote the candidates and their teams stop trying to contact you.


For individuals who like to be educated and courted by the candidates, these are your golden days in the sun. Once the election is over you will not be seeing federal candidates until reelection time comes around again. For state elections you will have a few months before the race for governor starts to really heat up.

The Democratic Party of New Mexico team has hit the road. They are traveling around the whole state to different events encouraging voters to vote early. This year there is no straight ticket vote. People need to be reminded how completely necessary it is to vote not just for the federal candidates but also state and local candidates.

We here in Bernalillo County are seeing a lot of Michelle Lujan Grisham. She is leading the charge to get voters out to the polls. We have also seen a lot of the local candidates for the state legislature. It is important to encourage these individuals to understand normal working class and middle class people’s issues. Too often candidates are so busy fundraising that the only people who really matter are the richer individuals willing to donate the most. If the voters are not careful those will be the people who are represented in our state and federal government.

I encourage the voting public to talk to candidates that care enough to talk to you. Learn as much as you can about the candidates so as to make an informed choice when voting. Know which candidates support you and your issues. Don’t just vote for pay-for-view candidates just because they look charming or motherly soft on their commercials! A false managed image candidate is not the person you want deciding the laws that will directly affect the future of you and your family.
