The governor is looking at the problem of repeat DWI offenders through the lens of a persecutor and not a governor. What she does not see is that more jail time is not going to fix the cause of the problem. In order for this state to cut the number of repeat offenders, the state is going to have to get serious about finding and investing in programs that work toward curing drug and alcohol abuse.
Putting people in jail is not going to make the problem go away. Our detention system is already excessively overcrowded. Our state has one of the poorest records when it comes to treating the root causes of theses issues. Until the governor stops making this a political issue and starts making this a treatment issue, the number of deaths caused by DWI in this state will only continue to increase.
