Giving

With the holidays coming up in the next few weeks we turn our attention away from politics to look at giving to those who need it most. The last eight years has not been good for the middle class or the economically distressed in this country. Groups who feed and cloth the homeless are not seeing the same amount of giving this year because of the economic downturn but still we must look at all we have and find it in our harts a way to help those that are less fortunate in our communities. Giving to charity when times are good is not as hard as giving to a charity when times are difficult but think how much more the people will appreciate what is given. I don’t make a stand on which charity to give to but I do suggest that you find one where the money goes to the people in need.

The new incoming Obama Administration should look at ways to impact the problem of homelessness in this country and to find ways to get people off the streets. Many of our homeless are veterans who have returned for war only to end up on the streets while others are mentally ill people who need guidance when it comes to medication and the simple task of everyday living. To turn a blind eye on these problems when the weather is turning cold is to do a disservice to veterans and mentally ill people in this country and that is what the Bush Administration has done to them over the past eight years. Now is the time for Congress and the Senate to work together to find ways to give these people a hand in to a safe caring warm environment not a hand out.
