Universal Federal Voter Registration

Do all legal Americans have the right to vote? What a concept that people would be registered to vote at the same time they are given a birth certificate and a social security card. I know that the Republican Party fear giving more people the right to vote but is that a real reason to prevent it from happening in our life time. Since we can build a system for social security and birth certificates then why not a national voter registration system? No one is saying that any system is perfect but a system like this would be an improvement over the present one. It would do away with third party voter registration groups and destroy any objections that some have about voter registration fraud. A new system would free people up to work on getting out the vote for their candidate rather than just registering people to have the right to vote. What a concept that all Americans would be given a lifelong right to vote in this country. What is the Republican Party afraid of if such a system was enacted? Since when did the right to vote become a privilege and not a civic duty in this country?
