The Albuquerque Journal over the last few days has had little good to say about our party.
They want to make it appear that Governor Richardson and Lt. Governor Diane Denish can not agree because Richardson supports Senator Obama and Denish supports Senator Clinton. Both Richardson and Denish have been around for a very long time and know not to take these types of disagreements personally. The Governor had Denish backing him up just yesterday evening when he appeared on the evening news to deal with the local Trigo Fire that was destroying homes in the mountains. Lt. Governor Diane Denish is a favored candidate in our party to be our next Governor and I am sure that the Republican Party would love to harm her image in the party before the next election for Governor but I have a feeling that Governor Richardson will simply not allow that to happen while he is governor.
The news about State Party Chair Brian Colon has also not been as kind. Both Clinton and Obama people are working hard for every last superdelegate they can get in the next few weeks. I am not surprised that the election for the last state Superdelegate was questions by John V. Wertheim because to do less would not be to represent his candidate to the best of his ability; nevertheless, Brian Colon is a careful party chairman and I am sure that he did his best to stay impartial when it came to the selection of Ms. Weahkee as the last Superdelegate. I am also sure that he followed the Party rules to the best of his ability on this matter.
New for the race for Metro Court Judge was also not so kind. We have five very good people running for that position and they should all be looked at carefully before anyone makes up their mind which candidate to vote for on June 3. Our party has some of the best lawyers in the state. Yes they are going to use those skills to try and thin the pack when it comes to who is on the ballot. This keeps our party honest when collecting signatures of the voters and I for one see nothing wrong with that process or the process we use to elect judges to office.
The Journal made Metro Court Judge Clyde DeMersseman sound like he had only changed parties so that he could get elected. I met Judge DeMeresseman in 2006 and he sounded very much like a democrat before he changed parties. His parents are retired from the field of education so I am sure they had a big impact on his views on education. He has received endorsements from AFSMCE, Chicano Police Officer's Association, Albuquerque Area Firefighters (local 244), Animal Protection Voters because of the solid work he has been doing while on the bench. I don't think he is a far left wing democrat but he does hold our party's values. Yes, despite what the Republican Party would love to put out to the public the Democratic Party does have moral values.
The Democratic Party cares about protecting the poor and elderly, providing education to all individuals, protecting our environment both for us and for our children, providing middle class Americans with the opportunities to own homes, providing health care for all Americans and providing a peaceful world for all humankind. I don't see those kinds of morals being shown by the Republican Party lately.
The nice thing about having the internet is that all sides of the issues can be seen despite control of the local news media by any one party. We are lucky in this country to have freedom of speech.
